BEST Joins Mount Royal University for Its Sustainability Fair!

October 13, 2026 - Posted By Beatriz Fernandes

On October 8, Mount Royal University’s Sustainability Fair brought students, faculty, and staff together to explore practical ways to live and work more sustainably. Booths across the event featured clothes thrifting, plant swaps, and recycling initiatives, all focused on small, everyday choices that add up to real impact on campus.

As MRU’s partner for cleaning and waste diversion, BEST was proud to take part. The fair gave our team a chance to connect directly with students and faculty and talk about what happens behind the scenes: how waste is sorted, why proper diversion matters, how everyone on campus plays a part in keeping recyclables and organics out of the landfill, and what other initiatives, such as environmental friendly chemicals and energy-efficient vacuums, contribute to MRU's sustainability goals.

We also partnered with joni to start a conversation about a part of campus waste that doesn’t get talked about much: period care. Conventional pads and tampons often contain plastics that can stay in the environment long after use. joni, a certified B Corp, takes a different approach. It uses plant-based materials like organic bamboo and organic cotton, and packaging that is certified compostable, so its products can break down instead of piling up. For our team, this fit naturally with the work we do every day on campus: finding ways to keep more out of the landfill.

Events like this are a reminder that sustainability on campus is a shared effort. We’re grateful to MRU for including us, to joni for partnering with us, and to everyone who stopped by our booth with questions and ideas.
