Creativity and fun for Welcome Week at higher education institutes
Last week, many higher education students came back to class across Canada and BEST was there to welcome them to a clean and organized campus, where we had prepared a Welcome Week surprise. We achieved our goal to entertain and create awareness of the correct sorting of waste to increase waste diversion.
At BEST, we use creative and entertaining ways to teach clients and employees ways to protect the environment, and it is well-known that recycling helps to reduce waste pollution, along with the need for raw materials to increase waste diversion. The key to successful waste management is public awareness, so this Welcome Week, we introduced the Sort Your Waste spin wheel game to teach students how to properly sort the most commonly mistaken items.
The game attracted students towards our Welcome Week table and once students joined in and learned proper sorting techniques, they won a prize. This year’s prize was a reusable straw, in keeping with the global initiative to reduce single-use plastics, with the slogan “Never refuse to reuse”; the added bonus? Campus-wide single-use plastic will be reduced from site waste streams.
