Winter in Canada is legendary for its snow, ice, and frigid temperatures, and can also pose a number of health and safety risks if you’re not careful. As the weather gets colder across Canada, we work with our team members to ensure they are upholding our values of health and safety. From mandating our drivers practice safe driving on challenging roads, to preventing slippery conditions both inside and outside our clients’ sites, we are always there to ensure our team members, our clients, and our community members stay safe and healthy in the colder months.

We encourage everyone to prioritize their health and safety this winter! Here are some tips from BEST to help you stay well this season:

Practice defensive driving: Drivers are likely to have their visibility impaired this time of the year due to bad weather conditions and early evenings. To avoid accidents, plan your route ahead of time, adjust your driving to the conditions of the road, and watch out for pedestrians. Be mindful of slippery roads, as vehicles may not be able to stop.
Watch for ice: Winter and icy conditions go hand-in-hand, and you may find the ground more slippery due to morning frost, ice, or even snow in the coming months. You can reduce your risk of slips, trips, and falls by wearing appropriate footwear, using railings when available, and choosing pathways that are well-lit and salted.
Don’t catch a bug: Winter is cold and flu season, so it’s important to take the appropriate measures to minimize your chances of getting sick! You can avoid viruses (including COVID-19) by washing your hands often, maintaining a good diet and exercise plan to keep your immune system strong, and cleaning frequently touched surfaces like counters and doorknobs.
Stay warm and dry: Listen to local weather forecasts and dress appropriately. If you must go out in the rain or snow, stay as dry as possible and remove wet clothing as soon as you’re able to.

Remember to take your time, don’t take unnecessary risks, and dress for the weather. By following our BEST winter tips, you can stay safe and enjoy all the wonderful things the season has to offer!
