As part of our rebranding process this year, we provided our team members with new uniforms in line with our current brand. With the addition of new uniforms, we’re left with a large volume of old uniforms that could no longer be used. BEST wanted to find the right way to dispose of these uniforms without being wasteful. Hence, we partnered with TerraCycle to recycle all old uniforms into useable raw materials.
TerraCycle is an innovative private company, that collects waste on behalf of corporate donors and turns it into raw materials to be used in new products. Most local curbside recyclers accept a limited number of items based on profitability. If the cost to collect and process the waste is higher than the value of the resulting raw material, recyclers typically do not accept those items even though all waste is technically recyclable. This is what sets TerraCycle apart from other recyclers. They accept and recycle hard-to-recycle items and are committed to their mission of eliminating the idea of waste.
Our partnership with TerraCycle has resulted in waste reduction and has allowed us to mitigate the negative impact improper disposal of old uniforms could have had on the environment. Over 825 old uniforms have been recycled! This number continues to grow as we collect and recycle old uniforms from all BEST sites.
Collaborations as such help us uphold our commitment to “For a cleaner world.” We’re invested in continuously finding new and innovative ways to create a cleaner and more sustainable environment. We look forward to collaborating with TerraCycle in the future to further lower and eliminate our waste production.
